Yacht Delivery and Captain Services

Below is a rundown of our boat delivery process and what we can expect from each other. Clear communication is the foundation for a successful voyage.

When deciding to have your yacht delivered by a professional crew, it’s important that you feel confident and comfortable with the team you hire. This starts with having a number of conversations about the vessel's history, maintenance, proposed route, etc., so we can get on the same page about the goals and expectations. Just like you need to feel comfortable with us, we need to be confident in the vessel's seaworthiness when heading offshore.  This is when we will go over the most recent survey, if any, with you as well to make sure there are no issues to sort out beforehand.

Delivery Process

1) Planning/Preparation

Once we are in agreement about the plan and quote, you’ll be presented with a delivery contract that spells out the details in writing. We will send you the sailing CV of the skipper and crew that we suggest to do the delivery for your approval. This is when we do formal route planning, customs/formalities prep if it's international, and determine the date for crew to arrive at the vessel. We will ask you for a general inventory of parts, spares, and tools.

2) Crew Arrival to Boat

Upon arrival, we immediately begin a thorough pre-departure inspection. This will involve the hull, rigging, sails, all machinery, electronics, safety equipment, etc. Whether the owner is present for this part or not, we document all findings, and if they relate to the safety and seaworthiness of the vessel and route, then we will go about fixing the issue as efficiently as possible. If the hull needs to be cleaned or the engine needs service, we arrange to get that done right away. We will fill up tanks, make provisions for the trip, and then watch for our weather window to depart.

3) Passage

Once a suitable weather window presents itself, we will be underway. Typically, we will have a captain plus two crew, working around the clock on 4 hour on/8 hour off watches, with the captain always on standby for anything unexpected. We sail/motor conservatively, aiming to minimize wear and tear on your vessel and not have any equipment failures while offshore. On longer deliveries, when possible, we may make quick stops for fuel or provisions or to capitalize on an upcoming weather window and not get caught out in rough weather unnecessarily. We always have 24/7 access to weather data and satellite communications. Many boats now have Starlink, and that helps even more, but we carry our own Iridium devices as well. While underway, we will keep a detailed log of any problems, repairs, spare parts used, and recommendations for the vessel. You will also be able to track the vessel live while we’re underway from our Iridium devices.

4) Arrival to Destination

Upon arrival and clearance into the country/marina, the team will do a thorough washdown and interior cleanup. We will have all of your formal paperwork related to the trip organized and an expense report put together. Paperwork will include a trip write-up and log.
