Yacht Owner Training
We're all about confidence and competence when training yacht owners. Trainings can vary widely from an insurance sign-off for new owners, owners looking for some peace of mind taking their boat offshore, as well as ASA certifications. We want to leave you having learned more than you expected and that we both feel you are ready to safely captain your boat. Requirements vary and we can create a plan together for what your goals are. Some examples of the type of training we can put together for you are below.
Sailboat Training
ASA Certifications
The Castile brothers are both ASA Certified Instructors for the following courses: -ASA 101 (Keelboat Sailing) -ASA 103 (Coastal Cruising) -ASA 104 (Bareboat Cruising) -ASA 114 (Cruising Catamaran) We can run you through the courses of interest in your boat if it qualifies, or charter a boat with friends or family and prepare and qualify you to bareboat charter on the trip of your dreams! Individual requirements vary so please let us know how we can help.
Insurance Signoff
When doing an insurance sign-off, we need to confirm the owner's ability to safely operate the vessel. This will include inspections of safety equipment and how it functions, basic system understanding, and maintenance (engine checks, spare parts, etc.). On the water, we will go over close quarter maneuvering (marina and docking), navigation, emergency procedures, night operations, heavy weather techniques, and more. Owners background will depend on how long each of these will take, but typically 2–5 days can be expected. This is similar to the ASA courses, but without the formality and certifications.
General Training/Passage Training
We offer passage training for owners who may have never done an offshore passage. The goal is to build your skills and knowledge and to ensure offshore passages are an enjoyable experience! With some time on the boat together, we can really get to understand what your skills are, what your goals are, where you want to see improvement, and where we want to see improvement. We will go over route planning, meteorology, heavy weather tactics, pre- and mid-passage inspections...and some offshore fishing if interested! We want to make sure your future offshore sailing is safe and efficient. This can also be tied into the delivery of a new boat
